Viscosity Grade (VG)

 

Classified based on viscosity, VG bitumen is suitable for asphalt mixtures, including hot mix asphalt (HMA) and warm mix asphalt (WMA). It ensures optimal performance and durability in different climates and traffic conditions.

 

  • VG 10: Suitable for low-traffic roads and light-duty applications, offering good workability and durability.
  • VG 20: Ideal for moderate-traffic roads and general-purpose asphalt mixes, providing a balance of viscosity and performance.
  • VG 30: Designed for high-traffic roads and heavy-duty applications, offering superior resistance to deformation and cracking.

 

Application

  • Road Construction: Viscosity grade bitumen is widely used as a binder in the construction of roads, highways, and pavements.
  • Asphalt Mixes: It is commonly utilized in the production of hot mix asphalt (HMA) for surfacing roads, parking lots, driveways, and other paved areas.
  • Waterproofing: Viscosity grade bitumen is employed in manufacturing bituminous waterproofing membranes for roofs, basements, and other waterproofing applications.
  • Industrial Applications: It finds use in various industrial applications such as manufacturing bitumen-based coatings, sealants, adhesives, and paints.
  • Road Maintenance: Viscosity grade bitumen is utilized in road maintenance and repair projects for patching, crack sealing, and pothole repair.
